Welcome to the Bodhgaya Development Association

We are a small group of passionate Australians who are dedicated to helping support the underprivileged people in the impoverished area of Bodhgaya, India. It is our belief that education is the key — empowering communities with the knowledge needed to make meaningful and sustainable change. We support the following three education and community projects in Bodhgaya.
Prajna Vihar School
The Prajna Vihar School (literally "Abode of Wisdom") is an inter-religious school for children from poor backgrounds in Bodhgaya, Bihar, India. It has Christian, Muslim and Hindu teachers and students from all these religions as well as Buddhists.
Jeevan Deep
Jeevan Deep offers education and health services to low cast rural communities in and around Bodhgaya. Donated funds are directed to health care services and social infrastucture. Wells for reliable water, and micro-business training for sewing services and animal husbandry form part of the suite of projects Kailash and his team oversee.
Pragati Sewing Centre
The BDA is very happy to celebrate the restarting of the former Amar Jyoti Sewing Project now operating as ‘Pragati Sewing Center’ (Pragati in Hindi means progress), with leadership and support from the Dwyer Foundation. Priye (Princy) Ranjan Dwyer is chair of the Dwyer Foundation and is also the secretary of Prajna Vihar School Interreligious Society (PVSIS).

Our 2021 Trivia Fundraiser was a great success!

On the 10th of October we held our annual trivia fundraiser. It was a fabulous day with much entertainment and laughs, from trying to work out text abbreviations in the trivia, to ferociously bidding on auction items amongst friends. We are very pleased and humbled to say that this was our biggest trivia fundraiser to date and we raised enough money to cover the equivalent of 40 student's schooling for a whole year!!!We would like to take this opportunity to thank the host of the trivia, the auctioneer, and all of our other wonderful friends for donating items to make the day a success, and of course all of the wonderful people that attended on the day. Look out for the 'save the date' announcement for this year's 2022 trivia!
